Mark Zuckerberg wasn't joking when he said a new native version of Facebook for Android would be coming "soon." In fact, the company has finally hit the final phase of testing its new Android application, a new report claims today.
Facebook currently offers an HTML5-powered Android app that is as slow as molasses. In a recent discussion on Facebook's mobile plans, CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed that the HTML5 app was a mistake and promised a native app for Android was indeed in the works. I'm sort of shocked we're hearing about it this soon, though, as Android usually always plays second fiddle.
If you recall, it was just last month that the world's largest social network finally launched a native Facebook app for iOS. The new native version offers users a much faster experience for the iPhone and iPad. The new Android app should be equally as fast and stunning.
Unfortunately, there is no time pegged for when the new app will arrive. We don't even have a rough idea, so it could become available this week, or possibly next month. No one knows really, which sort of sucks, as a new, better version of Facebook for Android has been anticipated for months now.
With any luck we'll know more soon. Stay tuned, Facebook faithful.
