Charlie Hunnam Drops Out Of Fifty Shades Of Grey Movie! Find Out Deets HERE!!!

charlie hunnam dakota johnson 50 shades of grey lead out

Holy whips and chains!

It seems like only yesterday that the casting news spilled as Fifty Shades of Grey announced it had its super scandalicious leads. But now it looks like the big search is back on for one of the deliciously naughty stars who will be ready to dive head first into the world of S&M.

It was announced today that Charlie Hunnam has chickened out bailed due to other obligations as Universal Pictures commented:

"The filmmakers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey."

Not our Christian Grey! We - and likely Dakota Johnson - were totes excited for all his shirtless seksiness about to take over the big screen!

But with Sons of Anarchy being a huge hit and all, we can totes understand his schedule conflict.

We just hope Ian Somerhalder is free to fill those billionaire sexaholic shoes. Maybe??

Kinder Morgan to spend $74M on new Eagle Ford pipeline project

Kinder Morgan will invest $74 million to extend pipeline capacity in the Eagle Ford Shale.

Pipeline giant Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP (NYSE: KMP) will spend $74 million to extend a crude and condensate pipeline deeper into the Eagle Ford Shale.

KMP will build an 18-mile, 24-inch diameter lateral pipeline from its DeWitt Station to Gonzales County, company officials say. It also will develop a new Gonzales County station with 300,000 barrels of storage capacity, a pump and truck offloading facilities.

The extension will allow Houston-based KMP to move Eagle Ford crude and condensate from the new facility to the Houston Ship Channel and Phillips 66’s refinery in Brazoria County, officials also say.

Including previously announced joint ventures and projects, KMP’s planned Eagle Ford Shale investments total $900 million.

Earlier this week, KMP said phase one of the 185-acre Battleground Oil Specialty Terminal Company LLC project on the Houston Ship Channel began service. Phase two of the BOSTCO project is underway and expected to begin service in the fourth quarter of next year.

In raging Middle East, Israel wins time with Palestinian peace talks

By Maayan Lubell

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Pressured by Washington, worried about its international standing and perturbed by Middle East turmoil, Israel had many reasons to return to peace talks with the Palestinians this week after a three year hiatus.

On the surface, Israelis saw little reason to jump back into negotiations. The status quo in the occupied Palestinian territories was holding and the question of the so-called peace process had largely fallen off the domestic political agenda.

But Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may have realized he could not take the rap for cold shouldering U.S. efforts to revive the talks, and recognized that turbulent regional dynamics made it worthwhile to engage with the Palestinians once more.

"Resuming the diplomatic process at this time is important for the state of Israel both in order to try to end the conflict and given the complex reality in our region, especially the security challenges from Syria and Iran," Netanyahu told his cabinet on Sunday before it sanctioned the resumption of talks.

The last round of U.S.-brokered negotiations collapsed barely after they began in 2010 in a row over continued Jewish settlement building in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem on land the Palestinians want for their future state.

Although Netanyahu continues to reject Palestinian demands that he halt the construction, he has agreed to release 104 Arab prisoners as a goodwill gesture, drawing heavy criticism from rightist allies who say it will encourage terrorism.

The fact he made such a politically sensitive concession suggests he was put under enormous pressure by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, who visited the region six times in just five months to try to revive the long-moribund peace process.

"No one wanted to lose the blame game, so that's why we went to Washington," said Amos Yadlin, a former Israeli military intelligence chief who now heads the Institute for National Security Studies.

The same is true for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and that pressure could also produce progress: "Whoever botches the Americans' plans will have a price to pay," one Israeli official told Reuters on condition of anonymity.

CHAOS

However, U.S. arm-twisting alone does not fully explain Netanyahu's decision to head back to the negotiating table. Turmoil in the region also played an important role.

In the three years since the last failed effort, the Arab world has been turned upside down by uprisings that have transformed the Middle East.

With the outcome of the rebellion still unclear, notably in neighboring Syria and Egypt, many Israeli politicians have urged Netanyahu to do nothing and wait for the storm to pass, which appeared to be his preferred strategy until now.

But Itamar Rabinovich, a former Israeli ambassador to Washington, said the prime minister could not pretend that Israel was not a part of the Middle East and had to try to bring some calm and order to the chaos.

"Middle East instability has a complex, contradictory role. It is more difficult to make territorial concessions, but on the other hand, in a region that is undergoing such significant changes, Israel wants to be a player," he said.

"To do that it has to negotiate with the Palestinians."

Since the onset of the Arab world's popular revolts in late 2010, uncertainty has become almost the only thing Israel can rely on, bringing it short-term gains and long-term concerns.

Israel signed a peace treaty with Egypt three decades ago and had maintained a stable cold war with Syria for even longer, but the turmoil has hit both those big Arab nations hard.

Although Israeli officials have kept quiet about the latest upheavals in Egypt, there is no doubt they are relieved to see the return to prominence of the army in Cairo and the downfall of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi - which in turn undermines Israel's enemy Hamas, the militant group that rules Gaza.

Likewise the civil war in Syria means Israel has been able to sit back and watch the erosion of a once powerful foe.

However, the chaos has also allowed jihadi gunmen to build a presence along two previously dormant fronts and has sowed seeds of potential trouble in Jordan, the only Arab state to have signed a peace accord with Israel besides Egypt.

Against this backdrop, Yossi Beilin, an Israeli architect of the 1993 Oslo Accords with the Palestinians, said the time was right to try to end the decades-old Palestinian conflict.

"When around us you see all these crises, we might create with the Palestinians and the Jordanians and hopefully in the future with the Egyptians a group of peaceful countries which understand the importance of peace and cooperation and have an impact on the whole region," Beilin said.

IRAN

European Union diplomats have echoed this sentiment, and the 28-nation-bloc added to the pressure on Netanyahu to return to talks by announcing this month that it would bar financial aid to Israeli groups operating in the occupied territories - putting Israel on guard that its patience was running out.

"In the past few months the price of continuing the status quo has become much clearer to Netanyahu and in his third term he may be thinking of his legacy," said the former ambassador and peace negotiator Rabinovich.

When it comes to establishing a legacy, Netanyahu's allies say his primary focus has always been tackling Iran's atomic program. As he himself told his cabinet on Sunday, worries over Iran played directly into his Palestinian decision-making.

The Israeli leader has said for years that Iran is planning to build a nuclear bomb and warned that this represents an existential threat to the Jewish state.

Despite Tehran's denials, Netanyahu believes time is running out to deal with the issue. Israeli leaders have repeatedly said Washington must take the lead in halting Iran - either through military means, economic sanctions or diplomacy.

In this context, analysts said Israel could not risk rousing Washington's ire by spurning Kerry's extraordinary efforts.

"Netanyahu has Iran on his horizon and has made a very calculated move in order to guarantee some American support on more concrete, assertive steps in the Iranian matter," said Uzi Rabi, head of the Moshe Dayan Centre for Middle East Studies.

Start-up news channel hopes to counter anti-Israel bias in the media

TEL AVIV, Israel -?State-of-the-art TV studios above an ancient Mideast port signal Israel?s arrival in a modern media landscape in which countries increasingly seek to broadcast their own perspective to the world.

Israel advocates have long alleged that their country is portrayed in an unfair and one-dimensional way by the international media, largely as an occupier of the Palestinians.

Now the answer has arrived in the form of i24news ? the first international channel dedicated to reporting the news from an Israeli point of view. Its goal is to tell the rest of the Israel story in English, Arabic and French.

The new station?s founders insist they aren?t an Israeli version of the Qatar-funded Al-Jazeera pan-Arab channel. They receive no government funding, hold no political affiliation and pledge to cover the news dispassionately and objectively.?

The initiative, which follows dozens of other attempts to tell Israel?s side of the story, highlights a deep-seated sense that Israel is losing the battle over international public opinion and that its voice has been missing from a smorgasbord of news outlets.

?When you are talking about Israel in the international media today, it is only through the perspective of the Arab-Israeli conflict. We have to show that there are a lot of things about Israel that people don?t know about,? said Frank Melloul, the channel?s chief executive. ?What I want to do with this channel is to connect Israel to the world and connect the world to the Israeli reality.?

To do so, i24news broadcasts around the clock, devoting 30 percent of its content to local coverage, including culture, technology and sports.?

Its spacious studios in Jaffa, an ancient port city merged with Tel Aviv, include three glass-encased sets for simultaneous broadcasts in three languages, along with an integrated news desk for its 150 journalists.?

The station went on the air less than two weeks ago, and most of the office space is still under construction. Though it is not yet clear how many people are watching, i24news says it can potentially reach 350 million households via cable and satellite operators in Europe, Asia and Africa. An expansion to the North American market is expected in early 2014.

Mr. Melloul, a former French diplomat, helped launch France24, a satellite channel aimed at improving France?s international image. Other governments have engaged in similar outreach efforts, resulting in Russia Today, China?s CCTV and Qatar?s Al-Jazeera.

The Israeli effort is funded by private money. Much of it comes from Patrick Drahi, a French-Israeli telecom tycoon who owns HOT, an Israeli cable network of TV channels and telephone service providers.

Calling i24news a ?startup channel,? Mr. Melloul said its private ownership frees the station from government intervention.

?We are not talking about propaganda,? he said, ?[But] it is time to listen to another voice from the Middle East besides Al-Jazeera.?

Walid Omary, Middle East bureau chief of the pace-setting and influential Al-Jazeera, said he was not familiar with the new station, but he welcomed the competition and considered it a compliment that others were trying to emulate his network.

?Apparently Al-Jazeera has a quality that everyone wants to challenge,? he said. ?Even those who criticize us recognize we have an impact.?

Bill would help troops better manage pre-service student loans

Two Illinois lawmakers want to amend financial protection law governing student loan repayments to eliminate what they say is a policy that discourages service members from consolidating or refinancing pre-service loans.

Sen. Dick Durbin, the Senate assistant majority leader, and Rep. Tammy Duckworth, a disabled Iraq War veteran who still serves in the Illinois National Guard, introduced legislation Tuesday to change the Servicemembers' Civil Relief Act to give service members financial alternatives denied under current law.

SEE ALSO: Senate approves bill on student loan rates

The Servicemember Student Loan Affordability Act, S 1399 in the Senate and HR 2859 in the House, would allow troops to consolidate or refinance pre-service student loans without having to give up the 6 percent interest rate cap imposed under federal law for debts incurred before entering the military. Under current law, the 6 percent rate cap no longer applies after these actions are taken because the original loan is repaid.

Loan consolidation is a requirement to participate in a federal loan forgiveness program that rewards people who have made regular payments for at least 10 years, the two lawmakers said. The Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program could help service members with Perkins or Federal Family Education loans.

The average student loan debt for service members is $25,000, the lawmakers said.

Durbin said service members are missing out on the opportunity of "historically low interest rates" that could "save borrowers thousands of dollars over the life of the loan." He called the bill a "common sense" fix.

The services have student loan repayment bonus programs that can provide up to $65,000 as a recruiting incentive. These are discretionary bonuses, and payments generally are limited to $1,500 for each year of service.

iPhone 5S: Release-Date Prediction for Apple Gets Even Earlier

**Editor's Note: Click here for our list of June's hottest selling smartphones to see how the iPhone fared against the competition.**

There have been so many new reports of a new iPhone lately, if you hadn't been watching carefully, you might've assumed it was already available.

The latest comes from the German blog iFun, which quotes a very credible source "to be taken seriously" ? OK, admittedly, a possible red flag there ? that the next iPhone, presumably called the 5S, will be "coming to market" right after Labor Day. The suggested release date of Sept. 6 is the earliest we've heard forecasted.

The blog also says to look for "two new device types," but isn't clear what that means. One can only assume it's predicting the much-rumored "budget iPhone" that Apple has consistently denied; nonetheless, most analysts expect it's going to happen.

That cheaper device was "confirmed" by a recent investigation into working conditions at an Apple factory in China, where staff were supposedly working on plastic casings for a new iPhone. But again, take that one with a grain of salt.

The 5S isn't expect to look a lot different than last year's model, but it might include a fingerprint sensor connected to the home button for added security.

Family History Strengthened As Cancer Risk Factor In New Study

Having a family history of cancer raises your own risk of the disease -- even if it's not the exact same type, according to a new study.

European researchers found that family history increases the risk of not only concordant cancer -- which is the same cancer -- but also discordant cancer, or a different kind of cancer. The findings, published in the journal Annals of Oncology, held true even after taking into account other potential risk factors, such as alcohol or tobacco use.

"Our results point to several potential cancer syndromes that appear among close relatives and that indicate the presence of genetic factors influencing multiple cancer sites," study researcher Dr. Eva Negri, who is the head of the Laboratory of Epidemiologic Methods at the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research in Italy, said in a statement. "These findings may help researchers and clinicians to focus on the identification of additional genetic causes of selected cancers and on optimizing screening and diagnosis, particularly in people with a family history of cancer at a young age."

The study is based on data from 12,000 cancer cases that occurred between 1991 and 2009 in 13 different sites, including the kidneys, breast, ovaries, prostate, liver, colorectal, stomach, mouth and esophagus. Researchers compared these cases with 11,000 people who didn't have cancer, and specifically examined family history of cancer and lifestyle risk factors.

Researchers found associations between having a family history of cancer and having a higher risk of cancer yourself, even if the cancer is of a different type. For example, if a woman has a close relative with colorectal cancer, she has a 1.5-fold higher breast cancer risk.

And if a person has a first-degree relative with cancer of the larynx, he or she has a 3.3-fold increased risk of oral or pharyngeal cancer. If a woman had a first-degree relative with breast cancer, she has a 2.3-fold higher ovarian cancer risk.

For people with a first-degree relative with bladder cancer, their own risk of prostate cancer is 3.4-fold higher.

Researchers noted that some of this increased risk of cancer could come from shared environments, such as family smoking or drinking habits. But they also said there's evidence genetics seems to play some sort of role.

Homemade Electrolyte Drink | Gourmet Veggie Mama

I?ve mentioned that food hasn?t been my friend this pregnancy, but at 20 weeks, we?re starting to get friendly again. My palate and appetite still aren?t what they usually are, and probably won?t be until the baby is born.* You know what else hasn?t been my friend? Water.

    *Sigh. The sacrifices we make.

I know, I know ? we need water to live, especially in the hot Texas summer, and especially when one is struggling to 1) keep an outdoors-loving (and supervision-needing) kiddo happy and entertained, 2) continue running through the sweltering heat, one very slow step at a time, and 3) gestate a human being. So, yeah, I need to hydrate. I know.

But someone forgot to tell that to my body. When morning sickness was at its roughest, drinking water made me nauseous. Of course, I choked down enough to stay healthy, using various tricks like chilling it (I generally prefer my water room temperature), flavoring it (cucumber slices did the trick there for awhile) and even downing sparkling mineral water, sometimes with a squeeze of lime, as a ?treat.? I know it sounds silly, but nursing a bottle of Topo Chico while everyone else is nursing a beer out in the heat is a lot better than sitting there glumly with a plastic cup of tap water.

But now, in the late July heat, I?m stepping up my game, since I really don?t want dehydration to come creeping in. A friend suggested I try coconut water (blech) or a homemade electrolyte drink, so I did some Googling and found a bunch of recipes. Naturally, I combined recipes this way and that adapted to my own tastes liberally. I didn?t want anything too sweet, since I don?t love drinking my calories (when there is not alcohol involved, that is), and too-sweet drinks seem to increase my thirst, rather than satiate.

Citrus is an important component in an electrolyte drink, since it is high in potassium,* and salt is a must (electrolytes are basically salt). You can use a fancy salt, like Himalayan sea salt, but table salt is okay too. You just need sodium chloride. Unrefined salt contains more trace minerals, so that?s what I used. This version uses honey as a sweetener, which I prefer over refined sugar.

    * Oranges especially ? that?s why you so often see stacks and stacks of them, along with bananas, on the food tables after a race.

    Homemade Electrolyte Drink

I let the hubby try my concoction, and he thought it needed more lemon, but he is a sour fiend ? so, play around with it and adjust it to your tastes. I think I may experiment with a lemon-lime version next. Drink up!

    Homemade Electrolyte Drink

    • 8 cups water
    • 1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
    • ? cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
    • ? tsp unrefined salt, ground
    • 4 Tbsp honey (preferably raw)
    1. Combine all ingredients in a large pitcher with a lid, and shake vigorously until mixed and dissolved.
    2. Chill and enjoy! Shake again before serving.

Schierholtz's HR in 9th lifts Cubs over Giants 1-0

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ? Nate Schierholtz's recent power surge might not be enough to turn the Chicago Cubs season around. It sure is making the year a lot easier for the slugging outfielder to handle.

Getting a game-winning home run against his former club? Well, that's just icing on the cake.

Cheered in every at-bat this series by the crowd at AT&T Park, Schierholtz homered off ex-teammate Sergio Romo with one out in the ninth inning to lift the Cubs to a 1-0 win over the San Francisco Giants on Saturday night.

"I can't really describe it, but it felt good," Schierholtz said. "I always loved playing here. I love the fans here. I couldn't ask for a better reception."

Dropped to sixth in the Cubs' lineup after batting cleanup a night earlier in the club's first game after trading Alfonso Soriano, Schierholtz worked a full count off Romo (3-6) before hitting a towering blast into the right field stands to hand Romo his second loss in as many games.

Schierholtz played with San Francisco from 2007-2012 before getting traded to Philadelphia in exchange for Hunter Pence midway through last season. He signed with Chicago as a free agent in the offseason and had been bothered by shoulder problems earlier in the year before heating up over the past two weeks.

The home run off Romo was Schierholtz's 14th of the season and third on the team's current 10-game road trip. Seven of his 10 hits on the road trip have been for extra bases.

"It's pretty nice to watch," Cubs manager Dale Sveum said. "It's obviously huge for him to do that to his old team."

Starlin Castro added two hits for Chicago, which is 18-13 in its last 31 games.

Madison Bumgarner pitched eight shutout innings for San Francisco but left without a decision. The World Series champs have lost six of seven and are a season-high 11 games under .500.

Since May 13, the Giants have the worst record in the majors at 23-42.

"We're in a tough rut now and we know it," San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy said. "We just have to keep working and trying. We couldn't even get a cheap hit and we got what we deserve."

Pedro Strop (1-0) pitched one inning for the win despite making two mental mistakes that helped the Giants load the bases with no outs in the eighth. Strop twice made late throws on sacrifice bunt attempts but got out of it when Buster Posey and Pablo Sandoval grounded into forceouts at home and Hunter Pence struck out.

"That was one of our more exciting innings of the year," Sveum said. "We were going to win it or lose it there."

Kevin Gregg worked the ninth for his 21st save to complete the five-hitter, getting pinch-hitter Tony Abreu to ground into a 3-2-3 double play after San Francisco loaded the bases with one out.

The Cubs won their second straight in this three-game set after dropping three of four to the Giants at Wrigley Field in April. Chicago scored two unearned runs in the ninth inning to beat San Francisco 3-2 on Friday.

This one went down to the wire again.

Chicago only got one runner to second base until Schierholtz's homer.

That was enough to hold off the slumping Giants, who were shut out for the ninth time this season.

Both starters were dominant but left without a decision.

Chicago rookie Chris Rusin needed just 27 pitches to get through the third inning and didn't allow a baserunner until Pence's one-out walk in the fifth. One batter later Joaquin Arias grounded a single to center to end the no-hit bid.

Rusin also worked out of a two-on, two-out jam in the sixth and got help in the seventh when first baseman Anthony Rizzo made a leaping stab of Brandon Belt's high liner to strand Pence at third base after he led off the inning with a ground-rule double.

Bumgarner was equally effective until leaving for a pinch hitter in the eighth.

The Giants' most consistent starter this season and an All-Star, Bumgarner overcame a pair of errors behind him and pitched out of a two-on, two-out jam when Andres Torres made a diving catch on Schierholtz's sinking liner in the sixth. He finished with seven strikeouts and two walks.

NOTES: The Giants committed two more errors and lead the majors with 76 this season. ... Giants RHP Ryan Vogelsong threw 45 pitches over 2 2-3 innings in his second rehabilitation outing after going on the disabled list with a fractured right hand. Vogelsong will accompany the big league club on a trip to the White House on Monday before joining Double-A Richmond for his next appearance. ... RHP Tim Lincecum (5-10, 4.73 ERA), who allowed eight runs on Monday in his first start since throwing a no-hitter, pitches for the Giants in the series finale. ... LHP Travis Wood (6-7, 2.95) goes for Chicago and is winless in four career starts against San Francisco. ... Giants pitching coach Dave Righetti rejoined the club after having elbow surgery Wednesday.

Message in a bottle: Man's ashes wash up in Florida after widow sends her travel-loving husband on his last journey in a bottle with a note and $2

    • Gordon 'Skinny' Smith died of a brain hemorrhage at 57 in March 2012
    • Three weeks later his wife put his ashes in a bottle with a note and $2 and threw it into the sea
    • The bottle has now been found twice in Florida and traveled 80 miles

A Tennessee widow packaged up some of her husband's ashes in a plastic bottle along with a note and $2, and set him adrift in the Atlantic Ocean on his final adventure last year.

When Gordon Smith died of a brain hemorrhage at the age of 57, his wife Beverly, 56, felt the avid traveler wasn't ready to stop exploring.

Most recently, Gordon Smith's ashes were was found in Key Colony Beach in Florida, having traveled 80 miles since his journey began.

Love of her life: Beverly Smith with her husband Gordon 'Skinny' Smith who passed away in March 2012

Beverly and Gordon Smith took their last trip together in March 2012. Two hours after their return from Costa Rica, Gordon Smith died of a brain hemorrhage.

The couple had been married for 27 years when Gordon Smith died suddenly, leaving Beverly to ponder a future without her travel-loving husband.

    ?

Gordon Scott Smith was a big man with an even bigger personality. Once, the construction worker playfully took umbrage at a colleague nicknaming him 'Fatty', so Smith became 'Skinny'. The name was so entrenched that even his paychecks were made out to Skinny Smith.

'I don't think his bosses knew his real name,' says Beverly Smith told USA Today.

Message in a bottle: Judi Sidney found Gordon Smith's ashes on the Florida beach in front of her resort

After Gordon was cremated, Beverly Smith placed the ashes, a message explaining that her husband Gordon 'Skinny' Smith loved to travel, and requesting that anyone who came across his ashes call her and let her know where her husband was, and two $1 bills to pay for the calls into a plastic bottle.?

'He loved the ocean. I wanted to let him travel a little and let him sail away,' she said.

She took the bottle to Big Pine Key in Florida, a place the couple had visited on holiday every February since the early '80s and hurled it out into the sea, three weeks after her husband's death.

'We'd blow in and everybody would have a good time,' Beverly told USA Today, describing how Gordon Smith had earned the nickname 'Tennessee Tornado' and shared his moonshine among the other campers at Big Pine Key campsite.

Interesting find: The first person to find Gordon Smith's ashes was Ross, who found the bottle washed up on the beach, then added a note of his own and sent Gordon on his way again

She also spread some of her husband's ashes at a Tennessee lake Skinny Smith loved, and in Costa Rica.

Gordon Smith has not yet had the opportunity to rest in peace - he's too busy touring Florida.

Earlier this month, he turned up at Mile Marker 79 at Islamorada, Florida. A man named Ross found the bottle and added his own note.

'I called his wife to let her know where her husband was and she was so, so happy. She said the money was for a phone call to let her know where he was,' reads Ross' note.

He took his boat out six miles into the ocean and sent Smith on his way.

Upgrade: Judi Sidney transferred Gordon Smith's ashes, the two notes and the cash to a new bottle and added a note of her own and another $1 before Gordon took to the seas again

Upgrade: Judi Sidney transferred Gordon Smith's ashes, the two notes and the cash to a new bottle and added a note of her own and another $1 before Gordon took to the seas again

Last week, Skinny Smith turned up again, this time in Key Colony Beach, Florida. Judi Glunz Sidney was cleaning litter from the shore of the beach in front of Glunz Ocean Beach Hotel and Resort when she noticed a plastic bottle with money and what appeared to be sand inside.

Upon reading Beverly Smith's note, Sidney realized the 'sand' was actually the ashes of Gordon Skinny Smith. She called the number and told Beverly that her husband had made another stop on his journey.

'Judi called the wife in Tennessee, who was excited to know of Gordon's travels! Judi added her note,' the resort posted on its Facebook page.

Journeyman: Gordon Smith has travelled almost 80 miles so far

Journeyman: The bottle containing Gordon Smith's ashes was thrown into the sea at Big Pine Key (A). It was found by Ross at Islamorada (B), then again by Judi Sidney (C)

'We put him in a rum bottle (you know, added a little fun to his trip) with the three notes. We added another $1 in case Gordon travels far and a long distance call is needed.'

Sidney and her husband threw a beach party for Skinny, passing around the letter for everyone present to sign, then the couple drove to Seven Mile Bridge and threw the bottle into the water.

Beverly Smith is still dealing with the grief of losing her husband every day. But hearing of his adventures from people Skinny Smith has managed to touch, even in death, helps her cope.

'I've had a rough time losing my best friend,' she told USA Today.

'You can't change it but you can lift your head up and be thankful? that people can still appreciate love stories - real love stories.'

Saturday's NFL roundup: Browns OT Ryan Miller suffers concussion, carted off field

Berea, Ohio ? Browns offensive tackle Ryan Miller sustained a concussion during a blocking drill in practice Saturday, an injury that shook his teammates.

Miller, who is in his second season with Cleveland, was carted from the field and taken by ambulance to the Cleveland Clinic after he was hurt during one-on-one drills inside the team?s indoor facility. Coach Rob Chudzinski said the 6-foot-7 Miller?s condition has improved.

?He?s doing well,? Chudzinski said following practice. ?He?s responsive and it sounds like things are better at this point.?

The Browns later said Miller has a concussion and was released from the hospital after being treated.

Chudzinski did not see how Miller got hurt, and did not know if the head injury was the result of helmet-to-helmet contact.

Cleveland?s players, wearing shoulder pads for the first time in training camp, were doing blocking drills when Miller wound up on the turf at 4:39 p.m. As medical personnel rushed to aid the motionless Miller, the music inside the field house was turned off and several players took off their helmets and dropped to a knee. After Miller was immobilized and strapped to a backboard, the entire Browns team and coaching staff huddled around the player and prayed.

?Anytime that happens you just pray and just hope for the best and hope everything is OK,? linebacker D?Qwell Jackson said. ?Coach gave us word that he is fine and that?s a good thing. But those are the challenges and the scares that when you sign up for the game there?s a possibility of something like that happening. I?ll tell you what, it made everyone realize that at any moment anything can happen.?

After the 320-pound Miller was wheeled from the building to be taken to the downtown hospital, the Browns continued their practice, which was moved indoors because of bad weather and closed to the public.

Chudzinski was given an update on Miller?s condition during practice and relayed it to his players, who were relieved to hear Miller had improved.

?It?s always tough to see your fellow linemen or one of your teammates go down like that,? Pro Bowl tackle Joe Thomas said. ?It?s hard because obviously there are things more important that football and your health is certainly one of them. Sometimes it?s hard to get back and focused on football when you see a guy laying there and not moving.?

Thomas said Miller got hurt when ?two helmets kind of hit in the wrong way, kind of a freak thing.?

Miller was drafted by the Browns in the fifth round in 2012 out of Colorado. He appeared in eight games as a rookie, and got extended time in the fourth quarter of the season finale at Pittsburgh after John Greco sustained a knee injury.

Miller was a four-year letter winner at Colorado, setting a school record with 48 career starts. He missed just two offensive plays over his final three seasons.

    Who's the Jets QB?

Coach Rex Ryan and general manager John Idzik will get together at some point during training camp and make a final decision on the New York Jets? biggest burning question.

    Mark Sanchez or Geno Smith?

It will be a move that will likely affect the entire season. And, it?s one Ryan won?t make alone.

?When you look at who?s going to play, Rex and I are going to talk about that freely,? Idzik, a Detroit native, said Saturday after the team?s second practice of training camp. ?And I like to believe that that has been the case so far, that if you put in that time and effort, when you make the decision, it?s a ?we? decision.

    ?It?s not one individual.?

In other Jets news, they placed cornerback Aaron Berry, a former Lion, on season-ending injured reserve and signed running back Chad Spann.

    Extra points

Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta dislocated his hip in practice Saturday and is expected to remain sidelined through the Sept. 5 regular season opener.

... Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, his face covered by a towel, was carted off the field at the NovaCare Complex after he suffered an injury to his right knee.

... Texans running back Arian Foster still is recovering from a right calf strain, but said Saturday that he feels good and shouldn?t be out of camp much longer.

... Panthers rookie guard Edmund Kugbila was carted to the locker room after injuring his right hamstring early in Saturday?s training camp practice.

... Raiders receiver Andre Holmes was suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing substances.

... The Colts put Pat Angerer and defensive end Fili Moala on the physically unable to perform list.

... Linebacker O?Brien Schofield was claimed off waivers by the Seahawks.

Seven killed in Florida apartment rampage

    By Zachary Fagenson

MIAMI (Reuters) - A tenant went on a shooting rampage at a Florida apartment building, killing six people before a SWAT team killed him and rescued two neighbors he was holding hostage on Saturday, police said.

The hostages were unharmed, police in the Miami suburb of Hialeah said.

The standoff began on Friday evening during an argument between the gunman and the husband and wife who ran the apartment complex. Their bodies were among the six found after the SWAT team moved in on Saturday morning, police said.

The gunman, identified by police as Pedro Vargas, 42, lived in a fourth-floor apartment with his mother and may have been facing eviction, police and neighbors said.

The landlords, 78-year-old Italo Pisciotti and 68-year-old Camira Pisciotti, went to the unit to discuss a problem with the gunman, who opened fire and killed them both, police said.

The gunmen went to another apartment in the building and shot dead a man and woman and their teenage daughter, and fired from a balcony at a man walking into a building across the street, killing him as well.

He also fired at emergency crews and police, missing them but preventing them from giving immediate aid to the victims, police said.

The shooter then barricaded himself inside a fifth-floor apartment where he took two neighbors hostage, investigators said. Negotiators made contact with him during the night and the SWAT team swarmed in after the talks broke down about 2 a.m.

At some point during the melee, the gunman set his apartment on fire, leaving the ceiling and hallway charred and setting off sprinklers that soaked part of the building. His mother collapsed and was taken to a hospital, police said.

The apartment complex in the blue-collar, mostly Hispanic community housed about 90 families.

Camira Pisciotti's first name had earlier been given incorrectly as Samira.
