HTC 'Droid Incredible 4G' appears in Verizon internal screen

The "Droid Incredible 4G" name has appeared a couple of times over the past few months, suggesting the imminent arrival of a new entry in HTC and Big Red's Droid Incredible series. Back in February we even got our first look at what seems to be a Droid Incredible-like device with Verizon 4G LTE connectivity.

Today there's even more evidence to suggest that a new Dinc may be on the way. A Verizon internal document sent to us by a tipster references the HTC Droid Incredible 4G and its model number, ADR6410. There's also some slightly less interesting stuff about MAP (minimum advertised price) policy, though no specific prices to speak of at this stage.

With the HTC One X and One S coming to Europe in the next week, and a U.S. launch likely within the next month, it makes sense for Verizon to get its own next-gen HTC handset in the near future. Purported specs include a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, 1GB of RAM and an 8MP shooter. Like the One S, the display is said to be AMOLED-based rather than One X's SLCD2. On the software side, we'd expect to see Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and Sense 4.0.

Sounds a lot like a 4G LTE version of the One S to us. Verizon people, be sure to drop by the comments and let us know if you're tempted.

Automotive workers strike in Kaluga | Signalfire

Automotive workers at the Benteler plant in Kaluga southwest of Moscow went on strike on Thursday night demanding higher wages, a trade union spokesman said.

?Now more than 50 workers are on strike at the factory and another 50 from other plants in Kaluga have arrived to support their colleagues at the plant entrance,? said Dmitry Kozhnev, the Kaluga coordinator of the inter-regional car industry trade unions.

The plant workers are demanding wages equal to their conterparts at the neighboring Volkswagen plant, which receives Benteler-made car components. The Benteler Automotive managers were not immediately available for comment.

Riot police have arrived at the scene but are watching from a distance, Kozhnev added.

?I?ve been politely warned that police might start arresting people,? Kozhnev said.

Leaves for Trees: I'm an Internet Genealogist

I'm an Internet Genealogist and I'm okay with that. I know, a typical genealogist would argue that you must have visits to dusty archives, trips to cemeteries and coffee with the local historical society. But I'm a different breed. I don't live anywhere near where my ancestors lived so visits to all the typical haunts are out of the question. Not to mention that I have two little boys that aren't big fans of libraries...or I should saying they aren't fans of being quiet.

So how does today's stay-at-home mom that lives far away from her homeland conduct research? Through the joy of the Internet and the lightening quick speed of the U.S. Postal Service. I must admit that I am proud of what I've accomplished on my family research without having left my desk. Here's some of my favorite tips:

1. Subscriptions. I couldn't live without my Ancestry.com subscription. In fact, I maintain my family tree on the site publicly. Through this I've received numerous queries on family that have led to massive brick wall destruction. I also maintain subscriptions to fold3.com, Newspaperarchive.com and genealogybank.com. But you don't always have to pay for these subscriptions. Check out your local library for genealogy sites they subscribe to, sometimes you are able to access them from your home. Some large genealogy libraries also offer library cards to "out-of-towners" for a fee, which grants you access to their subscription sites at a cost less than?purchasing your?own subscriptions. Keep in mind that Ancestry.com is usually only available from within your library.

2. Google. Have you Googled your ancestors? As part of my research checklist I always do a Google search for each ancestor. You never know what other researchers have posted online. And don't just look at the first page of results, flip through a few pages. I've found worthwhile links on the fourth and fifth pages of results. Also try a search in Google books.

3. WorldCat.org. WorldCat.org is a website that lists the catalog of libraries from across the world that I have already sang the praise of here. If a library includes their catalog on WorldCat.org, it will?list all their holdings which could include books, articles and archival?material. I found letters written by my?third great-grandfather through a catalog listing on WorldCat.org. Can you say Sah-weet?

4. FamilySearch.org. What can I say, it's a great resource. Of course you can look for your ancestors through their searchable database. But also check out records that haven't yet been transcribed. FamilySearch has countless record images for viewing that are not yet available in their search engine. I was able to locate the birth record of my fourth great-grandfather in Norfolk, England, just by browsing through FamilySearch's Norfolk Bishop Transcripts, 1585-1941. It does take a little more time, but it is well worth the effort. A good way to locate these types of records is to visit the FamilySearch wiki, which is yet another great option from the FamilySearch folks. And this may make your head explode, but you can also conduct a search for genealogy books from their homepage.

5. Local/State historical societies. Have you done a search for the historical society serving the area your ancestors lived in? Many local societies have great websites, often including records that they have in their collection. Look for a society for the city, county, region and state of your ancestor as each one will have a different collection and each one may be able to provide a different link to your ancestors' story. State societies also usually offer interlibrary loan for their microfilm/books. Don't be shy and give the society a call or send an email to ask about your relatives. I once made a big connection through an email to a society where the volunteer that returned my email was also researching the same line.

I can see that you are agog with the opportunities available from sitting on your bum. Nothing here is rocket science and you are probably using them now, but I hope that I have shared some new uses from some old friends.?These are just some of my old friends. What sites have worked for you?

Asbestos exposure is a serious issue that affects millions of American workers. As a naturally occurring material ? which is easily separated into microscopic fibers ? asbestos is linked to a number of lung diseases, including mesothelioma cases. Unfortunately, too many people underestimate their risk of exposure.

For decades, asbestos was celebrated because of its resistance to heat, fire, and chemicals. The so-called ?magic mineral? was popular across a wide array of industries, including the automotive, ship-building and construction industries. And even though the U.S. government began regulating the use of asbestos as early as the 1970s, thousands of products used in the workplace and the home today still contain asbestos.

The troubling reality is that while the use of asbestos in many products has been eliminated, it is still being imported and used in the U.S. As illustrated though this mesothelioma infographic, 1,730 metric tons of asbestos were imported in 2007. Many homes and buildings built before 1980 were constructed with products containing asbestos.

The proper removal and disposal of asbestos from existing buildings and homes is an ongoing problem. When products containing asbestos are disturbed, tiny fibers can be released into the air. If inhaled, they may become trapped within the lungs, which can lead to a variety of health problems, including lung cancer, asbestosis and mesothelioma.

While working and living around the material is enough to cause concern, it has also been shown that living with someone who is directly exposed to asbestos can place a person at risk. Referred to as ?paraoccupational? exposure, microscopic asbestos fibers can be carried home on work clothes or other items, before becoming inhaled by members of the household.

Asbestos-related diseases often do not present themselves until long after the exposure occurred. For instance, the symptoms of mesothelioma often do not appear until 20 to 40 years after exposure. If a mesothelioma diagnosis occurs, finding proper medical and legal help is critical. Utah women share feelings about having cosmetic surgery

SALT LAKE CITY -- Numbers and anecdotal evidence suggest that a high proportion of people, particularly women, in Utah are having cosmetic surgery done. Doctors who perform these surgeries say Utahns are educated and open to surgeries and that women just want to look like ?themselves? before they had children; therapists say issues of body image and self-worth are considerations.

But what about the opinions of the women themselves? Here, five women share their experiences and feelings about their bodies and why they chose to have or considered having cosmetic surgery. (Names have been changed because of the sensitive nature of the topic, but identifying information has not been changed. )

?I?m kind of on the petite side, and I had 9- pound babies,? said Abby, 37, a mother of five living in Springville who had a ?mommy makeover,? a combination of breast augmentation, tummy tuck and liposuction, in 2009. ?By the time I was done having kids, it was just like I felt like I was living in somebody else?s body.?

?I had my daughter at 19 and I had no image issues before then,? said Becky, 31, a mother of two who lives in St. George and had a tummy tuck about 10 years ago. ?After I had my daughter, I looked down and the first panic moment was when I was at work. I saw four stretch marks. I had marks ... (that are) keloid, so they had texture. Every time I?d get undressed to take a shower, I didn?t want to look at my body; I didn?t want my husband to look at my body. (Then) my son pushed my muscles apart. The surgeon said he?d never seen a gap as big between the two muscles as in mine.?

?I had been married to a verbally and physically abusive man who had told me I looked like a boy when I was naked. I had given birth to two children, and my breasts had lost some volume from that, but also from weight loss in general due to all the marital stress I was under,? said Claire, now 40, from Salt Lake City. ?Upon divorcing him, I elected to get breast augmentation surgery to boost my self-esteem. I never had a problem with body image before that abusive relationship. Before I had kids, I was pretty perfect in my opinion.?

?I had saddlebags: I had to buy pants a size bigger and have my (pants) waists taken in just to fit my thighs. Honestly, it was a huge issue for me; I thought about it every single time I got dressed or went shopping,? said Deborah, 32, who lives in Ogden but is from the East Coast. ?(In my home state I would think) I have to dress to hide this, it?s nothing horrible; I can deal with it. Then I moved out here, where there are a lot more young people. I?ve never seen so many people with perfect makeup and hair.?

Four of the five women interviewed referred to a culture of image or perfection in Utah. Becky, who grew up in Hawaii and is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as are all of these women, observed, ?Utah has its own culture; everything here is different. There?s Utah hair, the Bumpits (plastic hair inserts). They all wear the same thing, they wear the same jeans, the same clothes. I?m (even) seeing it with my (12-year-old) daughter?s classmates.?

?I?ve been a member of the (LDS) Church my whole life,? Deborah said. ?It seems like (in Utah) at church it?s all about appearance; back (East), church was a place to go because you need that peace. Here it?s because it?s a social club, everyone in your neighborhood goes. It was a huge culture shock when I moved here. No one (at home) had Bumpits. We were trying to get our hair to sit down.?

"I often find myself thinking that maybe the reason I have not had the privilege of finding someone to spend my life with is because I am not the ideal look of the "cookie-cutter" type of LDS woman that, in my opinion, most LDS men are looking for." Emily

Emily, who is 25 and lives in Salt Lake City and hasn?t had surgery done but considered it seriously enough that she saved up money for it, said, ?I feel a great deal of pressure to look a certain way because I am not married. Both of my older siblings were married at young ages, and I often find myself thinking that maybe the reason I have not had the privilege of finding someone to spend my life with is because I am not the ideal look of the ?cookie-cutter? type of LDS woman that, in my opinion, most LDS men are looking for.?

Emily is from Washington state and observed, ?Every time I go back to the Northwest, the pressure is gone. I feel that people are looking at me and I get all this attention. (But) when I?m here in Utah, I don?t know ... it?s just there?s all this competition with beautiful people.?

Abby said she?s never lived outside of Utah, but ?it does seem like there?s sort of this crazy, underlying drive for perfection, (the feeling that one should) bake bread and sew my children?s clothes and work out every day and look perfect.?

The women observed that there is a stigma about certain kinds of surgeries, while others are either ?acceptable? or even ?popular? and something women enjoy talking about openly.

Abby said, ?I think there?s this stigma ? (someone looks good) only because she had surgery, not because she took care of herself. There?s (also) this stigma of being worldly or vain to take that step with your appearance. (But) I have had a few come out of the woodwork (who admitted having surgery). Everyone I?ve talked to has been very happy that they did it.?

?I found out in the surgery culture that having breasts done or nose done is fine, but lipo is like cheating,? Deborah said. ?It?s kind of a quiet thing how word gets around. I only told a couple of close friends at work; my husband?s family knows because they live here. I don?t tell people about the lipo, because it?s like, oh, you couldn?t just stop eating.

?The breast jobs, though, everyone?s excited and talking about: ?Oh, yeah, I?ve had my breasts done.? I?ve never heard people say, ?Oh, I?ve had a nose job.? I?ve heard someone say, ?My friend had a tummy tuck;? it?s a quiet, through-the-grapevine, I- know-someone-who?s-had-that-done. Except the breasts; everyone?s proud of those. It?s like somehow that?s OK; anything else is a little vain and selfish.?

Becky said, ?Breast augmentation is really big here in southern Utah. For a little while, it seemed like you could just go to Target and grab them (breast augmentations) ? they were that popular.?

The men in these women?s lives tended to try to discourage them from going through an invasive procedure but supported them in their decisions. All of the women, except for Claire, whose former husband was abusive, said they considered surgery to make themselves feel better, not to make a mate happy.

?My husband was totally against it,? Abby said. ?He said, ?I don?t want you to die on the table!? My husband told me if I had to do it, OK, but he didn?t really want me to, but I felt so bad about my body that I did not even want my husband to see me naked.?

?My husband was really supportive,? Deborah said. ?He always said, ?You?re beautiful the way you are.? He?s the sweetest guy ever. But he said, ?I won?t get in your way.? ?

At the same time, she still hasn?t shared news of her surgery with her family back East. ?I know what my mom would say, and I don?t want to hear it. My mom will notice when she (does) see me.?

The women who had surgery all were very happy with their results and had no regrets. Deborah said, ?Part of me is disappointed with myself because I had this work done, but I know I?m so happy now that I?ve had it done. I love it.?

"The surgery made me feel like me again. No amount of counseling was going to help me because no amount was going to make me see myself any differently than just a skinny girl with a big belly." Deborah

?I would definitely do it again, hands down, no doubt,? Becky said. ?I know how sad I was before, how it affected my relationship with my husband and my children. I wouldn?t go in the water in Hawaii with my kids even though I was in a one-piece. The surgery made me feel like me again. For me, I knew who I was before, I was just trying to get back to the me before, not be a different me.?

For Claire, the surgery was part of moving past a bad relationship. She met her current partner a month after her surgery in 1997. ?I think the surgery did add to my happiness,? she said. ?Being in an abusive relationship was horrible, so obviously I was very low at that point, and after I got out on my own and started the road back, when I did have the surgery not very long after that, it was a huge confidence boost.?

There were a few costs, in terms of money and some drawbacks. Claire, for instance, had one of her implants deflate and had to decide whether to have another surgery to remove them entirely or put in new implants. Since no one at her workplace knew she had implants, in the week between the deflation and her new surgery, she had to stuff a sock in her bra.

At that time, in 2007, Claire did decide to have new implants inserted. But ?if they need to be replaced every 10 years, I think in five years, I?d consider getting them taken out just so I wouldn?t have to worry about getting them done again. I don?t have the body complex anymore that I used to.?

Recovery also can be a challenge. ?I tell you one thing I was not prepared for is the skin is now numb; right where the surgeon cut, about a few inches above and below the belly button, I can?t feel anything on the surface of my stomach,? Becky said. ?That?s one of the side effects I didn?t count on.?

Deborah said, ?The one thing no one told me, which I found it online, is that you?ll never gain weight in that same area again. Your body still wants to gain weight somewhere, so it?ll go somewhere else. Now I?m starting to gain a little bit of fat on my stomach for the first time ever. I didn?t know that your body would do that, but I?d still do (the procedure) again.?

Prices for the procedures vary, and none of the surgeries was covered by insurance. Abby?s mommy makeover cost $13,500. For her family, the cost wasn?t an issue because their income is high.

Becky?s tummy tuck cost $6,000, which she paid for on a credit card. The liposuction on Deborah?s outer thighs cost her $2,500. Claire paid about $3,500 for her first breast augmentation in 1997, for which she used a credit card, and about $3,200 the second time, for which she used funds from a second mortgage.

Overall, these women were pleased with their results, despite any costs or stigmas; those who had surgery after pregnancies feel better being ?restored? to pre-baby bodies.

Pope prays for freedom, 'renewal' in Cuba

HAVANA (AP) ? Pope Benedict XVI prayed for freedom and renewal "for the greater good of all Cubans" before the nation's patron saint Tuesday, but the island's communist leaders quickly rejected the Roman Catholic leader's appeal for political change after five decades of one-party rule.

The exchange came hours before Fidel Castro confirmed that he would happily meet with Benedict before he leaves for Rome on Wednesday. Castro made the much-awaited announcement at the end of a short opinion piece posted on a government website late Tuesday, saying he had decided to ask for "a few minutes of his busy time."

Expectations of a meeting have dominated Benedict's three-day visit to Cuba, which culminates with a morning Mass in Havana's Revolution Plaza.

On Tuesday, Benedict had a 55-minute closed-door meeting with Fidel's brother, President Raul Castro, in which the pontiff proposed that Good Friday, when Catholics commemorate the death of Christ, be made a holiday.

There was no immediate response. The Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Federico Lombardi, said it was natural for the government to take time to consider such a request, which followed on the Cuban government's decision to declare Christmas a national holiday after Pope John Paul II's 1998 visit.

"It's not that it changes reality in a revolutionary way, but it can be a sign of a positive step ? as was the case of Christmas after John Paul's visit," Lombardi said.

Asked if the pope raised the matter of political prisoners or Alan Gross, a U.S. government subcontractor sentenced to 15 years in prison in Cuba on spy charges, Lombardi said "requests of a humanitarian nature" came up, but he had no information about whether individual cases were discussed.

Benedict spent nearly twice as long with Castro as he normally does with heads of state, which Lombardi attributed to the pontiff's desire to get to know the man.

Days after dismissing the Marxist ideology on which the Cuban system is based, Benedict continued to gently press themes highly sensitive to Cuban government in his prayer and short speech at the sanctuary of the Virgin of Charity of Cobre near the eastern city of Santiago.

"I have entrusted to the Mother of God the future of your country, advancing along the ways of renewal and hope, for the greater good of all Cubans," the pope said. "I have also prayed to the Virgin for the needs of those who suffer, of those who are deprived of freedom, those who are separated from their loved ones or who are undergoing times of difficulty."

It wasn't long before a top official back in Havana responded.

"In Cuba, there will not be political reform," said Marino Murillo, Cuba's economic czar and a vice president.

The pope has kept his language lofty, his criticism vague and open to interpretation, but Murillo's comments left no room for doubt, and they were quickly picked up by pro-government blogs and on Twitter accounts.

Raul Castro has said that opening up Cuba's political system would inevitably spell doom for its socialist project since any alternative party would be dominated by enemies across the Florida Straits and beyond.

Alfredo Mesa, a Cuban-American National Foundation board member whose trip to Cuba was organized by the Miami Archdiocese, said the government's strong reaction would reinforce the pope's message and the need for change.

"I'd rather have them say this now than tomorrow," Mesa said.

During a quiet moment at the shrine of the Virgin of Charity, Benedict also prayed for more Cubans to embrace the faith in a country that is the least Catholic in Latin America. While most Cubans are nominally Catholic, fewer than 10 percent practice the faith.

The pontiff knelt before the crowned, wooden statue, which stood on a covered table shrouded in blue and white cloth. Helped by two bishops, the 84-year-old pontiff rose and approached the icon, lit a candle and stood in prayer as a choir sang hymns.

He called on all Cubans "to work for justice, to be servants of charity and to persevere in the midst of trials."

The pope pointedly referred to the Virgin by her popular name, La Mambisa, in a gesture to the many non-Catholics on the island who nonetheless venerate the statue as an Afro-Cuban deity. Mambisa is the word for the Cuban fighters who won independence from Spain at the turn of the last century.

In subtle ways, the pope has acknowledged a lack of faith in the island nation, and tried to make his trip appealing to potential believers. The visit is timed to the 400th anniversary of the appearance of the statue of the Virgin to two fishermen and an African slave in Cuba's Bay of Hipe.

Dunia Felipillo, 45, said she was proud to see the pope praying before the Virgin of Charity, even though she herself was not Catholic.

"We all ask favors of la Cachita," she said, using the Cuban slang for the Virgin, as she watched the ceremony on TV from the lobby of a Santiago hotel.

Benedict's frequent references to the Virgin also highlighted what the church shares with Cuba's nonreligious population, in contrast to his views that would spark more opposition, such as the church's position on divorce and abortion and his strong comments against Marxism.

Benedict has emphasized devotion to Mary throughout his Latin America trip, also making frequent reference to Our Lady of Guadalupe earlier in Mexico. But he has also warned the faithful in the past not to overdo it and forget that Christianity is about Christ.

Meanwhile, dissidents on the island say they still don't know the man who yelled "Down with the Revolution! Down with the dictatorship!" before the pope's Mass on Monday in Santiago.

Security agents hustled him away. Video of the incident showed him being slapped by another man wearing the uniform of a first-aid worker before security agents separated them.

"We do not know his name or his whereabouts, only that it was somewhat violent," said Elizardo Sanchez, head of a group that monitors detentions of government opponents.

He urged Cuban authorities, who have not commented on the incident, to identify the man.

Benedict seemed to walk with renewed vigor Tuesday as he greeted officials and clergy when his plane arrived in Havana. The previous evening, his spokesman acknowledged that the pope was fatigued from days of traveling in Mexico.

He was greeted on the tarmac by clergy, government officials and children who played music, danced and offered him flowers.

Ana Blanco, a 47-year-old Havana resident complained about people being told to attend a papal Mass on Wednesday in Havana, saying the pressure seemed odd in a country that in her early years taught her religion was wrong.

"Now there's this visit by the pope, and I don't agree with giving it so much importance or making anyone go to the Mass or other activities," the office worker said. "Before it was bad, now it's good. That creates confusion."

Miami Archbishop Thomas Wenski, who led a pilgrimage of about 300 mostly Cuban-Americans to the island for Benedict's visit, got a sustained standing ovation Tuesday when he gave a homily in a Havana cathedral packed mostly with Floridians. Wenski called for increased respect for human rights and political change on the island, while also warning against unbridled capitalism.

"The pope and the Cuban Church want a transition that is dignified for the human being, dignified for Cubans," he said in Spanish, repeating a theme he has spoken on in recent weeks. "The church wants a soft landing ... and a future of hope."

A Cuban exile group launched a flotilla of boats to park in international waters a little over 12 miles (20 kilometers) off Havana and set off fireworks to welcome the pope.

Havana has bristled at similar demonstrations in the past, calling them provocative acts that seek to violate its sovereignty.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, in Havana receiving radiation treatment for cancer, sent his greetings to Benedict, but said there was no plan to meet with the pope: "They have their agenda. I'm not going to be interfering at all."
